RANCHI: Days after the National Commission for Protection Of Child Rights (NCPCR) condemned Jharkhand Police’s inaction in the gruesome incident of abduction and rape of a minor in Jharkhand, the state police finally registered a case in the matter on Friday.
NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo, who visited the shelter home – Khushi Rainbow Home – associated with ‘Centre for Equity Studies’ run by Harsh Mander on April 26, alleged police inaction in the incident where two tribal minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted. The incident occurred on April 7.
In its FIR, the Jharkhand Police mentioned the matter of sexual assault on two minor girls by a guard at the shelter home. The FIR also mentioned that the management of the shelter home tried to hide the matter despite knowing the same.
Following the FIR by the Jharkhand Police, former state chief minister Raghuwar Das on Thursday also wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking the central government to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a probe.
In his letter to Shah, Das said that people associated with the shelter home concealed this heinous crime and did not inform the police.
“In the regime of the current CM Hemant Soren’s government cases of rape of tribal girls have increased which is a matter of concern. Harsh Mander was a member of the National Advisory Council headed by Sonia Gandhi during UPA rule. He has a very controversial background. His association with organizations involved with anti-national activities has been exposed. He was also involved in the anti CAA agitation, which the Delhi police is investigating,” Das said.
Das also alleged that the government in Jharkhand is trying to hide the case since he (Harsh Mander) is a very powerful person. “Due to the efforts of the NCPCR, the FIR could be lodged but I fear that justice will be delivered. Hence, I request you for a CBI enquiry and blacklist such organisations,” Das added.
