NEW DELHI: Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar held delegation-level talks with Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Philippines Teddy Locsin Jr in New Delhi on Sunday.

The visit was reciprocal to Indian EAM’s visit to the Philippines in February after India’s BrahMos Aerospace received a positive response from Manila for procuring a shore-based Anti-Ship Missile System Acquisition Project for the Filipino Navy.

The Filipino envoy Teddy Locsin Jr, who wears several hats and brings the experiences of a journalist, a diplomat and a lawyer arrived in New Delhi on Saturday.

In a tweet, Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said, “Pleasure to welcome Secretary of Foreign Affairs @teddyboylocsin of Philippines as he arrives in Delhi for an official visit. The visit will strengthen our multi-faceted partnership & advance the shared priorities of our countries in the Indo-Pacific.”

“We are entering a new phase of our partnership. Its basis is the mutuality of national security and development aspirations,” Dr S Jaishankar had said on February 14 after concluding a meeting with Teddy Locsin Jr and other officials of the Philippines.

The Philippines, which got independence before India, set up its diplomatic ties with India in 1949. In 2019, on the very year India and the Philippines commemorated 70 years of diplomatic relations, President Ram Nath Kovind travelled to the Philippines and met his counterpart President Rodrigo Duterte.
