ISLAMABAD: Newly-elected Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s 34-member cabinet was sworn in on Tuesday, with the Senate chairman administering the oath to the new ministers as President Arif Alvi excused himself from the ceremony for second time.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on Monday but was postponed due to the illness of the President.
Thirtyone federal ministers and three ministers of state took the oath of office at the presidential house in Islamabad.
“Federal cabinet has been formed after thorough consultations with Mian Nawaz Sharif and coalition partners. It is my fervent hope that federal ministers, ministers of state, and advisers will provide leadership and resolve the problems of the people. Work, work & only work is our motto,” PM Shehbaz Sharif said in a tweet.

The incumbent Pakistan Muslim League (N) has shared ministerial portfolios with the parties in the coalition. Hina Rabbani Khar from the Pakistan Peoples Party has been appointed as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Shehbaz’s predecessor Imran Khan was ousted by a no-trust vote in the national assembly, the lower house of Pakistan on April 11.
Balochistan National Party and Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazl have not supported the new government and have demanded nationwide general election at the earliest.
Among the heavyweights, there are figures like Khawaja Muhammad Asif from the PML. Asif brings the experience of serving Pakistan as the Defence Minister. Several eminent leaders from the PPP including Sherry Rehman, Syed Murtaza Mahmud, Syed Khursheed Shah, and Shazia Marri have been drawn into the newly formed Cabinet.
