VARANASI (UTTAR PRADESH): Hours after don-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas was banned from campaign in the assembly polls, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday said that the BJP government, if re-elected, will take strict action against goons and trouble-makers.
Reacting to Abbas Ansari’s threatening comment aimed at local officials in Mau, Maurya said that goons, criminals, and anarchists would be hanged upside down to make them mend their ways.
Speaking to The New Indian, he said, “I want to tell him that no one will be allowed to indulge in hooliganism. The model code of conduct is in place till March 10. Let him speak whatever he wishes till then. After March 10, people making such comments, goons, criminals, and anarchists will be hanged upside down to make them mend their ways.”
Abbas, who is contesting from Mau assembly constituency on the ticket of Samajwadi Party ally Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP), was on Friday banned from campaigning by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for 24 hours for his comments aimed at local government officials in Mau district.
Addressing a gathering on Thursday night, Abbas had said, “I recently met Akhilesh Yadav and told him that if the Samajwadi Party-led alliance wins the elections, he should not transfer the government officials for six months. Pahle hisab-kitab hoga (scores would be settled first). Only then their transfer certificates would be stamped.”
The deputy chief minister made the strong remarks during his visit to Varanasi where he offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath temple and interacted with people at famous sweet shop of Sri Ramachandran.

In its order, the poll panel had said that Abbas won’t be allowed to hold “any public meetings, public processions, public rallies, road shows and interviews, public utterances in media etc” for 24 hours from 7 pm on March 4.
Uttar Pradesh Police registered a case against Abbas on Friday morning for violating the model code of conduct after the video of his public meeting went viral on social media.
Mau will vote in the seventh and last phase of the state assembly elections on March 7.
Mukhtar Ansari had been representing the Mau assembly seat since 1996. He is facing trial in a number of cases and is currently in jail.
