Lethpora (Pulwama) : CRPF senior officer and jawans paid glowing tributes to martyrs of Pulwama suicide attack in which 40 brave hearts laid their lives for nation.

At an event held at Lethpora Pulwama CRPF training college near the spot, to mark the third anniversary of the attacks, senior officers of CRPF laid the wreath at martyrs memorial and paid glowing tributes, along with the pledge to completely eradicate terrorism in JK.

On February 14, 2019, at around 3.10 pm, a bus carrying security personnel was rammed by a car carrying explosives at Lethpora near Awantipora. The collision caused a blast that killed 40 CRPF personnel of the 76th Battalion on the spot and injured many others.

Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) had claimed responsibility for the attack. They also released a video of the assailant Adil Ahmad Dar, a 22-year-old from Kakapora who had joined the group a year earlier.

Reports of functions to pay tributes were also received from other formations of CRPF and other security establishments.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha said “the nation will forever be grateful to our brave soldiers. Three years ago on February 14, 2019, 40 Indian soldiers were martyred in one of the worst Pakistan-backed terror attacks in J&K’s Pulwama.”

Post the dastardly attack, tensions flared up between India and Pakistan. Prime Minister asserted that the security forces have been given permission to choose the timing, place and nature of their response to the Pulwama terror attack. India then launched a counter-terror airstrike against a JeM training camp.

In the wee hours of February 26, 2019, the IAF jets bombed the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror camps in Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan and avenged the Pulwama terrorist attack.

A senior Pakistani Minister in October 2020 admitted that Pakistan was responsible for the Pulwama terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 that killed 40 CRPF personnel and brought the two countries to the brink of war. “Humne Hindustan ko ghus ke maara (We hit India in their home). Our success in Pulwama, is a success of this nation under the leadership of Imran Khan. You and us are all part of that success,” Science & Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said in the National Assembly during a debate.

Since the attack, the CRPF has firstly changed the standard operating procedures (SoP) of the convoy movement. According to the new SoP, a set of convoys will move together on pre-decided days only and under strict security in Jammu and Kashmir. Fast tags will also be in use to check unauthorised entry of vehicles in the convoy
