NEW DELHI: Congress has no plans to tie up with Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa in the upcoming assembly elections in the state. The party has refuted media reports of a possible alliance saying that party is confident that it will put the state back on the track to progress soon.
Congress General secretary KC Venugopal took to twitter to refute the claims made by some media houses that former party chief Rahul Gandhi during his meeting with Goa in-charge and former Finance Minister P Chidamabaram had discussed on possible alliance with the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress, that goes to polls on February 14 this year.
In a tweet, Venugopal said, “The rumour in circulation that a possible alliance with TMC was discussed by Rahul Gandhi in today’s meeting is completely baseless and untrue.”
“Let me assure that the Congress party is confident — we will put Goa back on the path to progress soon,” he said.

The Congress has several desertions to the Trinamool Congress in the state last year, including former Chief Minister L Falerio.
The meeting of Rahul Gandhi, Chidambaram and Venugopal to discuss poll preparations of Goa took place after the former Congress chief returned from his foreign trip.
The Election Commission on Saturday had announced the poll dates for five states — Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur.
Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand will go to polls on February 14, while Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in seven phases starting February 10 to March 7. Manipur will go to polls in two phases on February 27 and March 3. Counting of votes will take place on March 10.
