LUCKNOW: To check the poll preparedness in Uttar Pradesh that will witness a hot contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the other opposition parties including the Samajwadi Party and the Congress among others, a delegation of the Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra held a review meeting on Wednesday with the state’s senior officials in Lucknow to asses the poll preparedness.

The Election Commission in a tweet said, “In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a review meeting is being held with the District Election Officers, Senior Superintendents of Police / Superintendents of Police, Divisional Commissioners / Inspectors General of Police of 75 districts related to the preparations for election work in Uttar Pradesh.”

The Election Commission delegation is on a three-day visit to poll bound Uttar Pradesh.

The Assembly elections in the state are scheduled for next year. The ruling BJP led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is facing a stiff challenge by the Akhilesh Yadav-led samajwadi Party and Congress led by its general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

In 2017assembly elections the BJP-led alliance had won 325 out of 403 seats in the state. The then ruling Samajwadi Party, which had announced alliance with the Congress for 2017 assembly polls was decimated by the BJP.

The political parties have already begun their election campaign for the assembly elections due early next year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Amit Shah along with several union ministers and chief ministers have been campaigning extensively in the state, which is considered crucial for the BJP.
