ALIGARH: With just few months away from the crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary on Thursday slammed the BJP governments at the Centre and state saying today prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi adityanath will not get proper sleep as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has demanded for Bharat Ratna for former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Addressing a mega rally in Aligarh’s Iglas area, Chaudhary said, “There cannot be a better tribute to baba (Chaudhary Charan Singh) the way in which a massive crowd has gathered here.”

Akhilesh Yadav was also supposed to address the rally along with Chaudhary. However, he chose to remain at home in the wake of his wife Dimple Yadav testing positive for Covid.

In a tweet, Akhilesh Yadav informed that he would not be attending the joint rally due to Covid and will remain in three day home isolation for the safety of all party workers.

Invoking the memories of the former Prime Minister, the RLD leader said, “There have been many opportunities where on December 23 all farmers and labourers sat down and discussed the future of this country and paid tribute to Chaudhary Charan Singh. But this is the first time that here at Chaudhary Charan Singh’s ‘param bhoomi’ in Aligarh that we are holding a sabha at this massive scale.”

He also said that this is the first time that his father Chaudhary Ajit Singh is not between them anymore.

Chaudhary then asked the crowd, “This time I have joined hands with Samajwadi Party will you support and bless the way in which you supported Chaudhary Ajit Singh.”

“Akhilesh Yadav is in Lucknow, he could not attend today’s rally. But we have shook hands and allied with them to restore and honour the memory of Chahudhary Charan Singh. Some work he will handle, some I will, and some both of us together will handle,” he said.

Referring to the Samajwadi Party leader’s tweet demanding Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award for Chaudhary Charan Singh, Chaudhary said, “The way Akhilesh has done ‘vakalat’ (endorsed) for Bharat Ratna, tonight Yogi baba in Lucknow and Modi Baba in Delhi will not be able to sleep.”

Targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the RLD leader said, “Shah did not fulfill his promises to farmers made in 2017. No schemes were made in Chaudhary Charan Singh’s name.”

He also accused the BJP-led central government of not honoring Chaudhary Charan Singh.

Targeting the Chief Minister, Chaudhary said that Yogi Baba cannot read a balance sheet. “He does not understand that our GDP is at an all time low. Since I have studied economics, I understand the situation,” he said.

Talking about unemployment, the RLD leader warned the youths that they would not get employment. “And If you do not get employment then all of you will remain ‘kunwara’ (bachelor). To get married, you need a job,” he said.

Targeting the Yogi Adityanath-led state government in Uttar Pradesh, he said that every two hours a woman gets raped in the state.”

He also cited the examples of Hathras gangrape and highlighted how the family was not given a chance to even pay their final rites to the victim girl.

He further said that he has taken several blows of the baton (lathis) in the state but has no grudge against the men in uniform. “We will take care of uniformed police once voted to power,” Chaudhary said.

Speaking about the seat sharing and manifesto of the alliance for Uttar Pradesh, the RLD leader said, “I have spoken to Akhilesh Yadav, the manifesto will be launched soon.”

The two leaders held their first joint rally on December 7 in Meerut. The two parties have decided to come together in view of 2022 assembly seats. The RLD has a strong voter base in western Uttar Pradesh, which is considered a stronghold of the Jat community.

The elections for the 403 Assembly seat is scheduled early next year where the ruling BJP is facing the SP-led alliance, Mayawati-led BSP and the Congress.
