NEW DELHI: Indian athletics will take a giant leap forward in May 2025 as two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra, in collaboration with JSW Sports, will bring a prestigious Continental Tour Javelin-Only competition to India. Supported by World Athletics and the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), the event promises to feature top male and female javelin throwers, with Chopra leading the charge.

 

The venue is yet to be finalized, but this event will be the first of its kind on Indian soil, showcasing some of the world’s best throwers. Chopra expressed his excitement, stating, “Bringing a world-class javelin competition to India has always been a dream of mine. With the help of JSW Sports and AFI, we’re making this happen. It will be a moment fans and athletes will remember.”

 

Chopra and JSW Sports are looking to establish the event as an annual fixture on the global athletics calendar. Their long-term goal includes expanding the event to feature more track and field disciplines in the future.

The event promises a dynamic viewing experience, with cutting-edge technology enhancing both live and broadcast experiences.

 

Lord Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics, expressed his support, saying, “World Athletics is thrilled to support this initiative, allowing fans in India to watch their heroes compete and showcasing India’s ability to host top-tier events.”

The event aims to inspire India’s next generation of athletes while supporting the government’s fitness initiatives. With the AFI’s push, Indian athletes are making significant strides globally.

 

Adille Sumariwalla, AFI Chairman, added, “Neeraj Chopra is the perfect role model to inspire India’s young athletes. We’re excited to partner with him and JSW Sports to bring this event to Indian fans. 2025 will be an exciting year for Indian athletics with two Continental Tour events in India.”
