NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has received a generous donation of Rs 1 crore to its endowment fund from Amarjit Bakshi, founder, chairman, and managing director of the Bakshi Group of Enterprises.

A distinguished alumnus from the 1967 batch, Bakshi’s contribution is part of a pledge he initiated in 2017 to support his alma mater.

In a statement, IIT Delhi highlighted that the endowment fund aims to build a robust resource pool to bolster research, enhance educational opportunities, and nurture future leaders.

Speaking about his contribution, Bakshi emphasized the pivotal role IIT Delhi played in his professional journey. “IIT Delhi has been the foundation of my professional journey, and I am honoured to contribute to its growth. This endowment is dedicated to enhancing the institute’s ability to deliver world-class education, support pioneering research, and nurture the leaders of tomorrow. My vision is for the institute to continue delivering transformative solutions for society and equipping future generations with exceptional opportunities for learning,” he said.

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, expressed heartfelt gratitude for Bakshi’s generosity. “Mr. Amarjit Bakshi’s unwavering commitment to the Endowment Fund is a shining example of the deep bond he shares with his alma mater. His generous donations are playing a key role in strengthening the institute’s academic and research capabilities, inspiring other alumni to follow his lead,” Prof. Banerjee remarked.

In addition to his monetary donation, Bakshi proposed a visionary Peer Teaching Initiative at IIT Delhi. The program aims to empower senior students to conduct interactive sessions on subjects they have mastered, sharing knowledge and insights with junior students.

By fostering a culture of mentorship and collaborative learning, the initiative seeks to enhance the overall educational experience while preparing students for future leadership roles
