NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence has signed a significant contract with Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) for the procurement of 155 mm/52 calibre K9 VAJRA-T Self-Propelled Tracked Artillery Guns for the Indian Army. 

 


The contract, valued at Rs 7,628.70 crore, was signed by senior officials of the Ministry and L&T representatives in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi.

The procurement of the K9 VAJRA-T artillery guns marks a major step in the modernization of the Indian Army’s artillery capabilities. Known for its cross-country mobility, the K9 VAJRA-T will enhance the firepower of the Indian Army, enabling deeper strikes with precision and greater lethal impact.

It is equipped with cutting-edge technology, the gun is capable of delivering long-range fires with high accuracy and a higher rate of fire. Its versatility allows it to operate in challenging conditions, including sub-zero temperatures in high-altitude areas, ensuring maximum operational potential across diverse terrains.

This project will not only strengthen the artillery capabilities of the Indian Army but will also create significant employment opportunities, generating more than nine lakh man-days over the next four years. The initiative will actively involve various Indian industries, including MSMEs, and will serve as a proud example of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, aligning with the Government’s ‘Make-in-India’ initiative.
