Tottenham Hotspur secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

NEW DELHI: Tottenham Hotspur secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 19, 2024, advancing to the semi-finals.

 

The match began with high intensity, and Tottenham capitalized on a mistake from United’s goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir. In the 15th minute, Dominic Solanke took advantage of a loose ball to open the scoring for Spurs. Despite United’s efforts to respond, Tottenham controlled the early stages of the match.

Tottenham extended their lead early in the second half. Dejan Kulusevski scored in the 46th minute, and Solanke added another in the 54th, making it 3-0. However, United mounted a comeback. Joshua Zirkzee pulled one back in the 63rd minute, and Amad Diallo scored in the 70th to make it 3-2. Both goals were the result of mistakes from Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster, who struggled with crosses into the box.

With the score tied at 3-3, the match entered a tense final phase. In the 88th minute, Tottenham’s captain, Son Heung-min, delivered a spectacular corner kick directly into the net, known as an “Olimpico.” The ball sailed over Bayindir’s head and gave Spurs a 4-3 lead. United managed to score a late own goal from Yves Bissouma in stoppage time, but Tottenham held on to secure the win.

Tottenham now faces Liverpool in the semi-finals, while Arsenal will meet Newcastle. The semi-finals will take place over two legs in January and February, with the final scheduled for March 16 at Wembley Stadium. Tottenham’s dramatic victory sets the stage for an exciting semi-final clash with Liverpool, keeping fans on edge for the remainder of the Carabao Cup.
