New Delhi: In a major step toward enhancing water supply in Lutyens’ Delhi, NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal unveiled several infrastructure projects on Monday. These initiatives, aligned with the Central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission and AMRUT 2.0, aim to ensure safe drinking water and 24×7 availability for residents.

The NDMC has introduced the first phase of its 24×7 water supply project, starting with the Vinay Marg area. “This Rs 1.80 crore pilot project will provide round-the-clock filtered water, laying the foundation for citywide implementation,” Chahal said.

A parallel Rs 12.73 crore initiative focuses on inclusivity by providing individual piped water connections to 9,386 households across 32 JJ clusters in the NDMC jurisdiction. To ensure efficient execution, the work has been divided into three geographical categories. Construction in two areas is slated to begin by March 2025, with plans for the third category under development.

To address water scarcity and meet demand during peak summer months, NDMC also announced the construction of two underground water storage units at Navyug School in Sarojini Nagar and Talkatora Cricket Ground.

“These projects demonstrate NDMC’s commitment to public welfare, sustainability, and creating a reliable water infrastructure for all, including marginalized communities in JJ clusters,” the official statement noted.

The NDMC’s efforts align with its broader goal of improving urban living standards, ensuring equitable access to water, and bolstering infrastructure resilience. Upon successful completion of these projects, the NDMC envisions a seamless, sustainable water supply for all residents of Lutyens’ Delhi.
