SRINAGAR: Authorities in Srinagar carried out extensive raids in the Batamaloo and HMT areas as part of an ongoing probe into an investigation registered under FIR No. 65/2024, invoking Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Shergari Police Station.
A senior police officer told The New Indian that “The investigation centres on individuals allegedly working at the behest of hostile elements to spread a fabricated and inflammatory narrative.”
Initial findings suggest a conspiracy aimed at disseminating false and provocative information to incite unlawful and violent acts.

Srinagar Police, armed with search warrants issued by the NIA Court, searched the residences of Obais Riyaz Dar, son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar of Bonpora, Batamaloo, and Sahil Ahmad Bhat, son of Noor Mohammad of HMT, Zainakot.
During the operation, authorities confiscated incriminating materials and electronic devices from the suspects’ properties. Officials have confirmed that additional searches at the homes of other identified individuals involved in seditious propaganda are planned.
The police have appealed to the public to use social media responsibly, warning against sharing or promoting content that spreads misinformation or provokes illegal activities, particularly among the youth.
