NEW DELHI: The stage is set for India to host the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup, an unprecedented event in the realm of traditional sports. Scheduled from January 13 to 19, 2025, the tournament will take place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, showcasing the country’s commitment to reviving indigenous games.

 

In a major breakthrough, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially partnered with the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) to support this historic event. The collaboration aims to elevate the tournament’s global profile and maximize its reach, ensuring its success on a grand scale.

Dr. PT Usha, IOA President, emphasized the significance of this initiative. “This event celebrates our rich cultural heritage while promoting traditional sports. Partnering with KKFI, we are committed to making the World Cup a grand success. This milestone will inspire athletes and foster global appreciation for Kho Kho.”

 

Expressing gratitude, KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal called IOA’s support a “game-changer.” He added, “The IOA’s backing will place Kho Kho on the global stage. Hosting the inaugural World Cup is a historic achievement, and we’re thrilled to lead this transformative moment for the sport.”

The tournament will feature 24 teams from across six continents, with men’s and women’s divisions. Competing nations include India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Kenya, Germany, Brazil, and Australia, reflecting the sport’s growing international appeal. The high-energy competition aims to captivate audiences and generate global interest in Kho Kho.

 

With IOA’s endorsement, the Kho Kho World Cup is set to become a landmark event, inspiring a new era for the sport. The tournament symbolizes India’s dedication to preserving its heritage while fostering international sportsmanship.
