A senior police official told The New Indian that terrorists hiding in the area began shooting at security forces after contact was made during a routine search operation.
“Based on specific intelligence of terrorist presence, a coordinated operation was launched by police and security units in the Zabarwan forest area near Srinagar, leading to an exchange of gunfire,” confirmed police sources.

Meanwhile, three Indian Army paratroopers sustained injuries amid a separate encounter ongoing in Kishtwar’s dense Chaas forest area. As per authorities, the same group of terrorists had abducted and killed two Village Defence Guard members on November 8.
Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a rise in encounters and terrorist attacks in recent weeks. On Saturday, security forces eliminated one terrorist while others were trapped during an operation in Sopore, where terrorists opened fire on the forces, sparking a deadly exchange.
In another incident on November 8, two terrorists were neutralized in Baramulla during an anti-terror operation based on intelligence leads.

Previously, on November 2, three terrorists, including a notorious Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Usman Lashkari, were killed in dual operations in Kashmir, with two policemen and two CRPF members injured.
In a further escalation, on November 8, the Kashmir Tigers—a Jaish-e Mohammad affiliate—claimed responsibility for the abduction and killing of two Village Defence Group members in Kishtwar.
