SRINAGAR: A surveillance image of a terrorist, dressed in traditional Pheran attire, suspected of being involved in the Gagangir attack in Jammu and Kashmir has surfaced.

However, investigators are still determining whether the individual, armed with an AK-47, was responsible for the October 20 attack that claimed seven lives. The suspect is seen entering a prefabricated shelter believed to be at the Gagangir tunnel construction site, where six migrant workers and one local were killed.

Security teams are working to verify the image’s authenticity, as it bears a “January 27” timestamp, which may be a technical glitch. The rifle carried by the terrorist has a distinct blue marking on the barrel, similar to those reportedly used in previous attacks on security forces in the Pir Panjal area, around 200 km from the current incident.

While the attacker in the image is not masked, survivors of the attack reported that the terrorists had concealed their faces. A senior police officer told The New Indian that commenting on the evidence at this stage could hinder ongoing investigations.
