NEW DELHI – An Air India flight, A1127, en route from Delhi to Chicago, was diverted to Iqaluit Airport in Canada after a security threat was posted online. The airline confirmed that the diversion was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew. All onboard are reported to be safe.

In its official statement, Air India detailed the measures taken following the threat: “The aircraft and passengers are being re-screened as per the laid down security protocol. Air India has activated agencies at the airport to assist the passengers until such time that their journey can resume.” The airline emphasised that passenger safety remains the top priority, and no compromises are made regarding security.

The incident comes in the wake of a string of threats that Air India and other local airlines have faced in recent days. The airline noted, “Though all have subsequently been found to be hoaxes, as a responsible airline operator all threats are taken seriously.” Even though these threats have not materialised into actual security breaches, the airline continues to treat each situation with the utmost caution.

In response to the increasing number of threats, Air India is working closely with authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable. “Air India is extending all cooperation to authorities in identifying the perpetrators of such threats to ensure that they are held accountable for the disruption and inconvenience caused to passengers,” the statement added. The airline has also indicated that it is exploring legal options to recover damages incurred as a result of these threats.
