NEW DELHI: The cyber unit of the Delhi Police has launched an investigation into a social media handle impersonating Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and soliciting money. The impersonator, posing as the Chief Justice, posted a message claiming to be stranded at Connaught Place and urgently needing ₹500 for transportation to attend a crucial collegium meeting at the Supreme Court.
The fraudulent post read, “Hello, I am CJI and we have an urgent collegium meeting and I am stuck at Connaught Place. Can you send me ₹500 for a cab? I will return the money once I reach the court.” The post quickly went viral, raising alarm among the authorities and the public.

In response, the Supreme Court authorities swiftly filed a complaint with the cyber branch of the Delhi Police. The investigation aims to identify the individual behind the fake social media account and take appropriate legal action.

Authorities urge social media users to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of posts, particularly those requesting money or personal information.
