NC announces candidates for J&K’s Assembly Elections

SRINAGAR: Following the conclusion of its alliance deal with the Congress, the National Conference (NC) unveiled its initial roster of 18 contenders for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, set to take place in three stages.

The party confirmed in a post on X that the list had been sanctioned by NC leader Dr Farooq Abdullah. Among the nominees are ex-MP from Anantnag, Justice (Retd) Hassnain Masoodi, representing Pampore, and former lawmaker Mohammad Khalil Bandh for Pulwama.

The NC also selected Ghulam Mohi-Ud-Din Mir for Rajpora, Showkat Hussain Ganie for Zainapora, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi for Shopian, and former Minister Sakina Ittoo for DH Pora.

Other candidates include Peerzada Feroze Ahmad for Devsar, Chowdary Zaffer Ahmad for Larnoo, Abdul Majeed Larmi for Anantnag West, Bashir Ahmad Veeri for Bijbehara, Reyaz Ahmad Khan for Anantnag East, and Altaf Ahmad Kaloo for Pahalgam. These constituencies are located in southern Kashmir.

In the Jammu region, the NC has put forward Mehboob Iqbal for Bhaderwah, Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy for Doda, Arjun Singh Raju for Ramban, Sajad Shaheen for Banihal, former Minister Sajad Kichloo for Kishtwar, and Pooja Thakur for Pader-Nagsani.

The first phase of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for September 18, with the second phase on September 25 and the final phase on October 1. The votes will be counted on October 4.
