NEW DELHI: The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, under the Ministry of Defence, organized a highly successful Job Fair at Kanpur Cantonment, in UP on Friday.

The event aimed to bridge the gap between veterans seeking employment and companies looking for experienced and disciplined candidates.

The fair attracted an impressive turnout, with 1,573 ex-servicemen from Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring regions attending the event.

A total of 41 companies participated in the job fair, offering 1,365 job vacancies across various sectors. In addition to the job openings, the fair also presented more than 500 entrepreneurial opportunities, catering to veterans interested in starting their businesses.

The event was a win-win for both the veterans and the participating companies, providing a platform for mutual benefit and collaboration.

 


The job positions available ranged from Senior Supervisors and mid/Senior level managers to Strategic Planners and Project Directors. Companies were keen to tap into the wealth of experience, discipline, and technical expertise that the veterans bring to the table.

The shortlisted veterans are set to undergo interviews and screenings, with successful candidates being placed in roles that align with their skills and experiences.

The event also featured presentations of entrepreneurship models by various companies, encouraging veterans to explore opportunities in business ownership.

This focus on entrepreneurship aligns with the broader goal of empowering veterans not just as employees but also as potential business leaders.

The Job Fair was inaugurated by Dr Niten Chandra, Secretary (Ex-Servicemen Welfare), and was attended by prominent officials, including Lt Gen Mukesh Chadha, Chief of Staff at HQ Central Command, and Maj Gen SBK Singh, Director General of Resettlement.

Their presence underscored the importance of such initiatives in supporting the transition of ex-servicemen into civilian careers.

Dr. Chandra, in his inaugural address, highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring that veterans are provided with ample opportunities to reintegrate into civilian life.

He emphasized the value that ex-servicemen bring to the corporate world, particularly their leadership qualities, work ethic, and technical skills honed during their military service.

The job fair at Kanpur Cantt is part of the ongoing efforts by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare to support the resettlement of veterans, ensuring they continue to contribute to the nation’s growth and development in their post-service careers.
