NEW DELHI:  Aam Aadmi Party MP Harbhajan Singh has penned a scathing open letter condemning the West Bengal government and the Central Bureau of Investigation for their inaction regarding the horrific rape of a resident doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Singh’s letter, titled “A Call for Justice and Introspection,” expresses deep anguish and outrage over the incident, which he describes as a grave assault on the dignity and safety of women in society.

The shocking incident, which took place on the premises of a medical institution, has sparked widespread protests from the medical community. Singh emphasized that the incident not only highlights a severe lapse in security but also raises questions about the broader societal issues of gender-based violence and the safety of healthcare professionals.

In his letter, Harbhajan Singh extended full support to the ongoing protests by doctors and the medical community, who have taken to the streets to demand swift justice. He acknowledged the suffering faced by patients due to the protests but underscored that the inaction by authorities left the doctors with no choice but to voice their concerns publicly.

He stressed that medical professionals, already working under challenging conditions, cannot be expected to perform their duties with dedication when their own safety is under threat.

Singh’s letter criticizes the West Bengal government for failing to take decisive action, even after more than a week has passed since the incident. He wrote,” I urge the Government of West Bengal and the investigating agency, CBI, to take immediate and decisive action to ensure that the perpetrators of this vile act are brought to justice swiftly.”

Singh’s message also addressed society, urging introspection and a collective effort to combat gender-based violence. He called for education, awareness, and cultural change to eradicate the deep-seated misogyny that fuels such crimes.

The letter concludes with a demand for justice, a safer society, and support for the doctors in their pursuit of justice. Harbhajan Singh’s strong stance adds further pressure on the West Bengal government and the investigative authorities to act swiftly.
