NEW DELHI: Zomato turned 16 years old and had a heartfelt celebration. Founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal, joined by his wife Grecia Munoz and Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, a company under the Zomato umbrella, commemorated the occasion with a touching gesture.

The festivities began at a Zomato Feeding India-supported school, where Goyal, Munoz, and Dhindsa engaged with school children, symbolizing Zomato’s commitment to community outreach. The event featured a cake-cutting ceremony, where Goyal, alongside a Zomato delivery partner, shared the joy with the children. Goyal shared pictures on Instagram which captured the candid moments.

Another picture shows Goyal holding a bouquet made up of paper that probably one of the students has made. The post also features the birthday cards that the children made for Zomato.

“Spent the first part of Zomato’s 16th birthday visiting and celebrating with kids at a Zomato Feeding India-supported school. Received much love, and so so many high fives,” reads the caption to the Instagram post.

Zomato also released a prominent advertisement in a leading daily thanking patrons for their continued support. The ad featured a large photograph of Deepinder Goyal alongside key executives, conveying gratitude in Hindi for the community’s unwavering support.

The text, written in Hindi, read, “16th janamdin par aap sabhi ko apna pyar barsane ke liye koti koti dhanyawad (On our 16th birthday, a big thanks to all of you for showering us with love).”

Zomato, a food delivery platform was co-founded by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah in 2008. Zomato’s headquarters is in Gurugram and has expanded its footprint across 1,000 cities in India and several international markets, including New Zealand, Canada, Turkey, and Brazil. Known for its innovative offerings like Zomato Gold, which provides benefits such as free delivery and discounts at partner restaurants, the company continues to redefine the food delivery landscape.

Deepinder Goyal, born in 1983 in Muktsar, Punjab, comes from a family of educators. Both his parents are teachers. Reflecting on his school days, Goyal described himself as an average student in one of the interviews with the media.  He faced challenges early on. In one instance, his father had to intervene with his teacher to ensure he could move to the next grade.

However, everything changed for Goyal when he reached Class 8. A supportive teacher helped him excel academically, leading him to achieve a top position in his class during exams—a pivotal moment that shaped his future.

Earlier this year, he tied the knot with Mexican model Grecia Munoz, marking a milestone in his journey. Additionally, Goyal has also served as a judge in the third season of Shark Tank India, a popular business reality show.
