NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has heralded a new era of Pakistan-China cooperation across IT, communication, mining, and energy sectors, promising economic development and stronger bilateral ties.
He chaired a review meeting in Islamabad to assess the implementation of agreements and MOUs from his recent visit to China. Sharif emphasized that enhancing Pakistan-China cooperation in these sectors will drive economic development, bolster regional ties, and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
Highlighting the enduring Pak-China friendship, Sharif acknowledged China’s steadfast support for Pakistan during challenging times, stating that China, as the strongest economic power, serves as a model for Pakistan’s development. The 72-year-old Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader stressed zero tolerance for disruptions in implementing agreements and MoUs signed during his visit, pledging personal oversight.
Sharif received a briefing on a delegation of Chinese shoemaking companies exploring the relocation of manufacturing units to Pakistan, aiming to invest USD 5-8 billion amid economic challenges. In agriculture, 12 prominent Chinese companies are set to participate in Pakistan’s upcoming Food and Agri Expo.

Sharif also reviewed progress on sending 1,000 Pakistani students to China on government scholarships for advanced agricultural training, emphasizing merit-based selection across provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, with special consideration for students from underdeveloped areas in Balochistan.
He directed the initiation of modern agricultural training in China from the next academic semester. The meeting also highlighted over 100 Chinese companies engaged in discussions for business ventures and investments with Pakistani firms. Updates included Huawei’s initiative to train 300,000 students and provide comprehensive solutions for business, smart governance, and smart cities.
Additionally, Sharif was briefed on China’s advancements in communication, infrastructure, and electricity projects in Gwadar.
PM Sharif emphasized again, he stated that enhancing Pakistan-China cooperation in these fields will foster economic development, strengthen regional ties, and deepen relations between the two countries.
