Ladakh tank mishap: Five soldiers feared drowned

Leh: In a tragic incident near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh’s Nyoma-Chushul area, five soldiers of the Indian Army are feared drowned. Their T-72 tank was swept away by flash floods while crossing a river during a military exercise near Mandir Morh.

The incident occurred around 1 am, approximately 148 kilometres from the nearest base. Among the soldiers onboard, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) rank officer and others have been identified.

Official sources told The New Indian that a T-72 tank with five soldiers on board sank due to flash floods while crossing the river. The soldiers, including a JCO rank officer, have been identified as:

1. Ris MR K Reddy,
2. Dfr Bhupender Negi,
3. LD Akdum Taibam,
4. Hav A Khan (6255 Fd Workshop and
5. Cfn Nagraj P (LRW)

A search and rescue operation is underway, with further details awaited.
