New Delhi: In the latest update on the UGC-Neet paper leak case, the CBI on Friday arrested Hazaribagh School’s principal Ahsan Ul Haq and vice-principal Imtiaz Alam. With these two, the CBI has now arrested a total of four persons in connection with the case.
According to sources, Ahsan Ul Haq was the NTA city coordinator, while Imtiaz Alam served as the centre coordinator at the school. They were taken into custody today and transferred from Hazaribagh to Bihar after two days of continuous interrogation by the CBI. Their arrests came after their alleged involvement in the paper leak surfaced.
Yesterday, the CBI arrested Manish Prakash and Ashutosh Kumar in connection with the case. Both arrests were made in Patna. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered a case against unknown accused persons under sections 120B, 420 IPC based on a complaint from the Secretary, Department of Education, Government of India.

It has been alleged in the complaint that on June 19, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) (under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs) that the integrity of the UGC NET -2024 Examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in two shifts across different cities in the country, may have been compromised.
After receiving the complaint, the CBI lodged an FIR. In the coming days, the CBI may conduct search operations. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18, 2024, in two shifts across different cities of the country.
“On June 19, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the examination. These inputs prima facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” the Education Ministry said.

It further said that to ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has decided that the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination be cancelled.
A fresh examination shall be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately. Simultaneously, the matter is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation into the matter.
NEET (UG) 2024 Examination
In the matter of the NEET (UG) Examination-2024, the issue related to grace marks has already been fully addressed. As regards certain irregularities alleged in the conduct of the examination in Patna, a detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Unit, Bihar Police. The government will take further action upon receipt of this report.
The government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. It is reiterated that any individual or organization found to be involved in this matter will face the strictest action.
