New Delhi: This Friday morning, Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) were drenched by heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already warned that the city would experience moderate to intense rain, and it certainly lived up to that prediction. Between 8:30 AM yesterday and 5:30 AM today, Safdarjung recorded a staggering 153.7 mm of rainfall, while Palam Airport saw 93 mm.
The consequences were immediate: waterlogged streets disrupted lives, and traffic snarls. While the rain brought relief from the scorching heat, it also unleashed chaos upon Delhiites.
Many parts of the capital were submerged due to the relentless downpour. Govindpuri and Karkardooma Metro stations were among the affected areas.
The heavy rainfall caused massive traffic jams across the city. Famous landmarks like Minto Bridge in Connaught Place were inundated, with ten feet of water blocking the entire road.
A car near AIIMS was completely submerged, and a mini truck got stuck in the Narayana area where the road suddenly caved in.
Badarpur and Prahladpur underpasses faced heavy water accumulation. Malfunctioning pumps exacerbated the situation, leading to severe traffic congestion on MB Road since 6:00 AM.
Delhiites grappled with knee-deep water in Bhajanpura, and the situation remains tense as the rain persists.
