NEW DELHI: Delhi Water Minister Atishi ended her hunger strike on Tuesday after being hospitalized due to deteriorating health, according to AAP MP Sanjay Singh. Atishi started her hunger strike on June 21, demanding water for the national capital amid the ongoing crisis. Her blood sugar levels dropped, leading to hospitalization on Tuesday.
AAP stated on ‘X’ that Atishi was admitted to the emergency ICU at Lok Nayak Hospital. Her blood sugar levels dropped significantly, reaching 43 at midnight and 36 at 3 AM, prompting immediate hospitalization. “Atishi has not eaten anything for the last five days due to her hunger strike, demanding that Haryana release Delhi’s share of water. She has been admitted to the emergency ICU at LNJP. We pray for her speedy recovery,” the post said.

“In the evening, our team visited her and checked her vital signs and blood tests. We found her blood sugar was extremely low. Although she refused admission, we took an IV sample, which confirmed her low blood sugar and a sodium level of 127. She was feeling weak and drowsy,” according to the hospital’s medical director.

Atishi was admitted to LNJP hospital early Tuesday morning after her health worsened during the hunger strike. She was admitted at 3:48 am and is currently stable.
“Currently, her vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and blood sugar, are normal. She is also taking oral fluids and is stable,” Kumar said (Medical Director of LNJP Hospital).
AAP has accused Haryana of cutting the water supply by 100 million gallons per day. Meanwhile, Delhi residents continue to struggle with daily water shortages, as water tankers can’t meet demand. The water crisis in Delhi has worsened due to soaring temperatures and limited supply during the heatwave.
