NEW DELHI: The war of words is heating up between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress and schools appear to be the contentious ground as 2022 elections approach near.
After Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia stormed into home turf of Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi while exposing the condition of government schools in Chamkaur Sahib, Congress party’s Punjab president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday reached the national capital to join the guest teachers’ protest outside Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence here.
This even as Kejriwal was in Goa on a visit to campaign for his party.
The cricketer turned politician Sidhu joined the protest being organised by temporary teachers outside Kejriwal’s residence in North Delhi ’s Civil Lines area and raised slogans against the AAP government.
Sidhu’s strategic attack on Kejriwal comes barely two days after he along with Congress Punjab in-charge Harish Choudhary and transport minister Amrinder Raja Warring met Rahul Gandhi
These teachers are demanding permanent positions in schools and colleges.
Taking on Kejriwal, Sidhu said, “In your 2015 manifesto, you promised 8 lakh new jobs and 20 new colleges in Delhi. Whatever happened to those jobs and colleges? You have given only 440 jobs in Delhi. On the contrary of your failed guarantees, unemployment rate of Delhi has increased by almost 5 times in last 5 years,”
“In 2015 there were 12,515 job vacancies for teachers in Delhi but in 2021 there are 19,907 job vacancies of teachers in Delhi. While AAP government is filing up vacant posts through guest lecturers,” Sidhu said.
The Punjab Congress chief brought the heat of his state politics on the home turf of Kejriwal in Delhi after the AAP leader took the Delhi model of education in the state, where assembly polls are scheduled early next year.
The association of guest teachers in Delhi has hit out at the Chief Minister over his “guarantees” in Punjab, saying that they are waiting for him to fulfill promises for the past seven years.
The AAP had been attacking Congress government in Punjab, where the grand old party has witnessed infighting leading to the resignation resignation Captain Amarinder Singh as chief Minister and from the party.
The AAP had sensed an opportunity to target the Congress ahead of high decibel assembly elections next year.
