NEW DELHI: Remember going out with your friends and family to a nice park with a picnic mat, basket, and amazing snacks? Sounds nostalgic, doesn’t it? Taken over by technology and mobile phones, when was the last time you planned a picnic and made it happen? Can’t remember? Then today is the perfect day to make that happen, as June 18 marks International Picnic Day.

In the bustling noise of cities and our extremely busy lives, we can barely find time to meet family and friends. Even people with families these days are often unable to introduce their children to what a picnic is like. This day, therefore, revives the tradition of bringing people together under the open sky.

Childhood memories of playing games, eating, and chit-chatting with our loved ones during a picnic in the nearby park are some of the most cherished, and those moments can still be experienced and passed on to the next generation. Picnics are a great way to find peace and escape from our stressful lives. This day not only takes us away from all our worries but also promotes connecting with nature and our loved ones, giving us a feeling of rejuvenation.

The history of picnics dates back to the mid-1800s during the French Revolution. During this time, people began visiting parks and open areas to enjoy meals outdoors with their families, a practice that had been restricted during the Revolution. This activity quickly spread worldwide and gained popularity.

So, this is the perfect day to plan an outing and surprise your closed ones with a picnic. As it takes no time and least effort, this can easily be planned to a nearby park or lake. If that is not possible then even your house backyard and garden are the perfect and closest substitute to spend nice quality time.
