MIFF is an event to celebrate documentaries, short fiction, and animation on social issues. It provides wider accessibility for filmmakers, students, cinephiles, and anyone with a passion for cinema by evaluating entries and awarding the most deserving documentaries, shorts, and animations with trophies and cash.

The second day of the event was graced by actor Varun Suri, filmmakers from the National Geographic channel and many officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
A special red carpet event was also scheduled which had to be cancelled because of the unfortunate accident that happened in West Bengal in which at least 8 people died because the Kanchanjunga Express train derailed by a goods train in Bengal’s Siliguri on June 17.
The New Indian team talked to actor Varun Suri, who has worked on movies like ‘Auhaam’ which soon will air on OTT platforms. The actor talks on a variety of topics like his journey from theatre stage plays to TV screens, nepotism and the importance of MIFF for any aspiring actor or filmmaker. On being asked about nepotism he said, “Star kids do have some advantages, but hard work and audience love are important for an actor.”
The first day of the event in Mumbai was graced by celebrities like actor Randeep Hooda, Abhishek Banerjee, Divyendu, Divya Dutta, Avinash Tiwari, Upasana, Madhur Bhandarkar, Vineet Kumar Singh, film director Rahul Rawail, Sonali Kulkarni and Anand L Rai.
The Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), which started in 1990 as the Bombay International Film Festival (BIFF), is organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. It focuses on documentary, short fiction, and animation films. As the oldest and largest film festival for non-feature films in South Asia, MIFF attracts cineastes from around the globe, providing a platform for documentary filmmakers to exchange ideas, explore co-productions, and broaden their vision of world cinema.
MIFF is notable for its prestigious awards, including Best Sound Design in the National Category, the Pramod Pati Award for the Most Innovative/Experimental Film, and the Dr. V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award. The 17th edition of MIFF featured exceptional films and honoured talented filmmakers, with the Dutch documentary film “Turn Your Body to the Sun” winning the esteemed Golden Conch Award for Best Documentary Film.
The festival is held at prominent venues in Mumbai and Delhi. In Mumbai, it takes place at the NFDC – FD Complex on Dr. G. Deshmukh Marg, and in Delhi, at the Siri Fort Auditorium in the Asiad Village Complex. MIFF continues to celebrate the art of non-fiction filmmaking, fostering creativity and cultural exchange through its impactful event.
