Aam Aadmi Party which came to power in Delhi in 2013 faced a major blow weeks before Lok Sabha Elections 2024 when Enforcement Directorate(ED) arrested Kejriwal on March 21 on corruption charges. Looking at the political scenario Delhi voters spoke their opinion about who they think can come to the power.
New Delhi: All seven constituencies of India’s Capital, Delhi voted on May 25. Talking to the voters at the polling booth, The New Indian team finds the mixed sentiments of Delhi Voters.
Aam Aadmi Party which came to power in Delhi in 2013 faced a major blow weeks before Lok Sabha Elections 2024 when Enforcement Directorate(ED) arrested Kejriwal on March 21 on corruption charges. Suman Singh, one of the voters, on being asked what the impact of the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal would be, said,’He will go back to jail; he is only out for a short time as there is evidence against him.’
The Aam Aadmi party has earlier impressed women voters with their schemes like free bus services & electricity. However, This time many women voters questioned the sources of money for all the free services
While asking about the new scheme Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, which guarantees Rs1000 every month to women above the age of 18, a women voter, Sarojini Rawat said, ‘I don’t change sides due to these freebies. We don’t want anything for free. If God has given us hands and legs, what is the need to have anything for free? Food earned by doing hard work is always best.’
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana was presented in the Budget for 2024-25 which includes Delhi women above the age of 18 but excludes taxpayers, beneficiaries of government pension schemes, and government employees. A family spoke on this and said, ‘Rs 1000 for a poor woman means a lot.’ He added, ‘If Kejriwal can make electricity freely available for Delhi, why the Prime Minister of India can’t do it for every Indian?’
On one side people show food, water & electricity as their daily concerns, and on the other hand, PM Modi’s & BJP’s remarks about the ‘Khan Market Gang’ seem to not affect voters. With these sentiments, India is moving toward the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1 when several parts of the country including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha & West Bengal will vote to decide the leader of this country.
