MAHARASHTRA: Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) on Friday issued an order explaining the new guidelines in wake of the heavily mutated new variant, Omicron. MCGM has introduced a very unique & strict home quarantine monitoring mechanism for international passengers arriving in Mumbai from risk countries.

The CEO of Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) will send a list to BMC’s Disaster Management Cell every 24 hours with details of Passengers coming from high risk countries. This list will be then passed on toward war room teams who will then take daily health updates from passengers, send a doctor for checkup and conduct RT-PCR test on the seventh day.
The order reads “As per the Government of India (GoI) guidelines issued on 30-11-2021 and subsequent guidelines by the government of Maharashtra (GoM) on 02-12-2021, 7 days Home quarantine has been prescribed to international passengers from ‘at risk’ countries. It is clear that GoI expects that such passengers follow strict home quarantine in order to restrict the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the public domain”
In Mumbai, 14 Omicron suspects have been shifted to allotted hospitals and their samples have been sent for whole-genome sequencing.
According to the Maharashtra government’s quarantine measures, passengers arriving from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana are required to undergo a mandatory RT-PCR test immediately on arrival, as well as a seven-day institutional quarantine.
The Prime Minister had held a key meeting on November 27, on the evolving situation of Covid-19 in the world and its effect in India amid an alert on a new dangerous strain and need for a further intensified vaccination drive that saw India crossing the 100-crore mark last month.
