NEW DELHI :In a tragic incident ,the father of the 17-year-old boy involved in the fatal Porsche crash in Pune has been apprehended by the authorities. Vishal Agrawal, a real estate developer, was detained from Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar early Tuesday morning after being on the run since the incident. The arrest comes following a case registered against him for negligence under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The incident, which occurred in the upscale Kalyani Nagar area, claimed the lives of two individuals in the early hours of Sunday morning. The victims, identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both 24-year-old IT engineers, were returning home on a motorcycle when they were struck from behind by the speeding Porsche driven by the minor. While Koshta died on the spot, Awadhiya succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The aftermath of the accident has stirred public outrage, particularly surrounding the response of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), which granted bail to the minor just 15 hours after his detention. Critics have condemned the leniency of the board’s decision, especially given the severity of the incident. Moreover, the board imposed rehabilitative conditions on the minor, including writing a 300-word essay on road safety and working with traffic police for 15 days.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, the police have initiated legal action against the bar establishments where the minor was served alcohol, despite being underage. The owners and staff of these establishments have been arrested for violating laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors. CCTV footage surfaced online, revealing the minor consuming alcohol at one of the bars shortly before the accident.

In response to the incident, Pune Police have taken firm action, filing charges against the minor under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, the teenager’s father has been booked for failing to fulfill his responsibilities as a guardian, including neglecting to register the Porsche, which was purchased in March this year.
The tragic accident has reignited debates on underage drinking, road safety, and the accountability of both individuals and establishments. Residents of Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar have voiced concerns over the nuisance caused by pubs and bars operating in residential areas, calling for stricter regulations and enforcement measures.
In light of the swift bail granted to the Pune teenager just 14 hours after the fatal Porsche incident, concerns have emerged regarding the treatment afforded to the minor during his detention. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s allegations against Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, accusing authorities of providing the teenager with pizza, burger, and biryani, have intensified scrutiny over the handling of the case. These claims have ignited debates about the transparency of the investigation and the impartiality of the legal process
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are determined to ensure justice for the victims and their families, emphasizing that those found guilty will be held accountable regardless of their economic status.
