Srinagar: Prominent leaders from various political parties submitted their nomination papers for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituency.

The filing of nomination papers signals the beginning of what promises to be a closely watched electoral battle in the region.
Accompanied by NC Vice President Omar Abdullah, Mian Altaf Ahmed Larvi, a revered Gujjar leader, also registered his candidacy for the coveted position. Abdullah expressed confidence in Altaf’s ability to represent the diverse interests of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, a coalition comprising various parties.
In a separate development, Mehbooba Mufti seized the opportunity to address the electorate, urging voters not to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Emphasizing the importance of participation, Mufti underscored that the elections are not solely about infrastructure development but also about reclaiming the dignity and identity of the region, which she believes has been eroded since August 2019.
Furthermore, Mufti condemned the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, characterizing it as akin to an “open-air prison” where forced labor is imposed on the populace. She appealed to the residents to reject boycott calls and exercise their right to vote, emphasizing the significance of restoring dignity and identity through the electoral process.
Meanwhile, Zafar Manhas, representing Altaf Bukhari’s J&K Apni Party, also joined the race by filing his nomination papers. Manhas took the opportunity to criticise both the NC and the PDP, highlighting their respective histories and asserting that they carry the weight of public discontent. He called into question the integrity of past electoral processes and urged voters not to be swayed by what he termed as “crocodile tears” from these established parties.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to announce its candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, adding further intrigue to the unfolding political landscape in the region. With the filing of nominations complete, the stage is set for a fiercely contested election that could potentially reshape the political dynamics of Jammu and Kashmir.
