NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Varun Gandhi, not nominated to defend his Lok Sabha seat in Pilibhit, penned an emotional letter to the people of his constituency, promising to continue serving them.

The letter came after Jitin Prasada, who replaced Varun, filed his nomination papers for the upcoming general polls. In the heartfelt letter, Varun referred to himself as “Pilibhit ka beta” (son of Pilibhit), emphasising his deep connection with the constituency. He expressed gratitude for the support and love he received from the people of Pilibhit, acknowledging their significant role in his upbringing and development.

Recalling his first visit to Pilibhit as a three-year-old child in 1983, Varun reminisced about the fond memories and cherished moments he shared with the people of the constituency. Despite not seeking re-election as an MP, Varun affirmed his unwavering commitment to serve the people of Pilibhit, pledging to keep his doors open for them.

Varun highlighted his dedication to championing the common man’s interests and sought the people’s blessings to continue this work, regardless of the circumstances. He emphasized the enduring bond of love and trust between him and Pilibhit, transcending political considerations.

Varun’s letter comes amidst reports of his disappointment with the BJP leadership’s decision to field Jitin Prasada from Pilibhit instead of him. However, Varun refrained from criticizing the party in his letter, focusing instead on expressing gratitude to the people of Pilibhit. The decision not to nominate Varun Gandhi, a two-time MP from Pilibhit, marks a departure from the longstanding tradition of the Gandhi family representing the constituency.

Despite his absence from the electoral fray, Varun’s letter reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Pilibhit as their devoted son. Meanwhile, amidst speculation about his political future, Varun Gandhi received an invitation from the Congress party. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury extended an offer to Varun to join the party, citing his clean image and connection to the Gandhi family.

The upcoming Lok Sabha election in Uttar Pradesh holds significant political implications, with the BJP aiming for a strong performance to maintain its dominance. The opposition, comprising the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, is gearing up for a competitive contest across the state’s 80 seats. With Varun Gandhi’s future political trajectory uncertain, his heartfelt letter to the people of Pilibhit reflects his enduring commitment to public service and underscores the deep-rooted bond he shares with his constituency.
