As per the latest update, ABVP’s presidential candidate Umesh Chandra secured 1012 votes, closely followed by the Left nominee, Dhananjay, with 1009 votes. In the third position is Biswajit Minji of the Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students’ Association (BAPSA) with 170 votes.
Here’s a breakdown of the votes for each position:
ABVP candidates are leading in the General Secretary and Joint Secretary positions, with Arjun Anand securing the highest number of votes for General Secretary (1125 votes) and Govind Dangi leading for Joint Secretary (1198 votes). However, in the Vice President position, Avijit Ghosh of the Left takes the lead with 894 votes, followed by Deepika Sharma of ABVP with 847 votes.Since its establishment in 1969, left-wing student organisations, particularly the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), have wielded significant influence in JNU’s student politics.
The SFI has clinched the presidential post 22 times, while the All India Students’ Association (AISA) has secured it 11 times. The presidential debate for the JNUSU elections was held on March 20, followed by polling on March 22.
