NEW DELHI : Haryana, which has recently seen the change of guard after Nayab Singh Saini replaced the incumbent CM Manohar lal Khattar, will now have a two-month period to set off for the Lok Sabha elections on its 10 seats as part of a single-day Lok sabha polling that wil be held on May 25.
The Lok Sabha polling may also set the tone for Haryana’s 2024 state assembly election to be held later this year.
As far as candidates are concerned, BJP has retained three sitting MPs and they will be contesting from thier old seats: Dharambir (Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seat) Rao Inderjit Singh (Gurgaon), Krishan Pal Gurjar (Faridabad).
All the eyes will be set on a tantalising battel as Khattar will make his Lok Sabha poll debut from Karnal.

Also, in Sirsa, the BJP has brought in a turncoat Ashok Tanwar, who has changed as many as four parties including AAP , Congress, TMC and now BJP as he replaces the sitting MP and former IRS officer Sunita Duggal.
In Hisar, the BJP has so far not announced the ticket even as its incumbent MP Brijendra Singh, a popular Jat leader, a former IAS officer and son of former Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh, joined Congress last week. Speculations are rife that former Adampur MLA and ex Haryana CM Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi, whose own son Bhavya Bishnoi had recently won the by polls, may be given the ticket.
It is unclear at the moment whether the two month period from the date of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will give two former allies : BJP and Jannayak Janta Party JJP a period to fortify their vote bank as the split may not help either party which has form govt in 2019 in Haryana.

While BJP relies heavily on not Jats, Punjabi Khatris , OBCs (Ahirs, Sainis, Yadavs) and Baniyas and Brahmins, JJP’s vote bank largely include Jats. JJP will be in direct contest with Congress and many in Haryana believe that Dushyant Chautala-led party may work as a vote-cutter after BJP turned down its offer to allow it to field two candidates that led to an ugly split.
Jats constitute 25 per cent of Haryana population while OBCs make nearly 40 per cent of state’s voters.
Congress, on the other hand, which had faced a setback in both Lok Sabha and state assembly polls in 2019 is looking for a turn around in this Lok Sabha election this time, having improved its tally at least in state assembly polls in 2019 to a more respectable figure of 31 seats – a 16-seat jump from its 2014 tally.
Congress MP Deepinder Hooda, the son of former CM Bhupender Hooda, has been making hectic tours of the state while also riding high on the support of riled wrestlers from the Jatland who had recently protested against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
