NEW DELHI: Uber has officially launched ‘Uber Green’, a low-emission ride option through the usage of electric vehicles that connects you with fully electric vehicles, in Delhi at the Bharat Global Mobility Expo 2024 on Saturday which was flagged off by Minister of Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal.

The New Indian spoke to the Head of Electrification and Strategic Verticals for Uber in India and South Asia, Manish Bindrani, who shared the company’s aim to go emission-free by 2040. He said, “Uber Green is Uber’s efforts in India to actually launch 100 per cent emission-free sustainable rides in India. If you book an Uber Green product, you are assured of an electric vehicle that will come to pick you up.”
Starting on February 3, across Delhi, citizens will be able to book Uber Green rides. On the topic of expanding these services and the company’s target for a sustainable future, Bindrani said, “Uber has already launched Uber Green in Bangalore and Bombay.

“We have seen good traction in those markets. In fact, consumers really like the service. We have brought this here across Delhi as well as part of our larger ambition to become emission-free by 2040.”
Elaborating on the topic of affordability and economic benefits of Uber Green, the Bindrani said, “One of the big reasons that this is going to scale in the future is also because electricity costs bring down the operating costs of vehicles quite dramatically.

“So, it is much cheaper to run vehicles on electricity per kilometre and as you might already know fuel prices on both diesel and petrol keep rising year on year.
“So over time consumers can actually start to see economic benefits because of that as we scale these services.”
