NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to paint Delhi in the hues of celebration as it gears up for a citywide procession, accompanied by feasts and participation of prominent party leaders on the occasion of Ram Mandir’s consecration ceremony scheduled to take place on January 22.
The Kejriwal-led Delhi government also initiated a three-day grand Ramleela performance at the Pyarelal Auditorium near the ITO complex, beginning on Saturday. The event saw an impressive turnout of ‘Ram Bhakts’ from various corners of Delhi.

Delhi’s Minister of Art, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Education Minister Atishi inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The entire cabinet of the Kejriwal government, including Kailash Gahlot, Raaj Kumar Anand, and Imran Hussain, along with several MLAs, attended the Ramleela performance.
Kejriwal, who is set to join the grand Ramleela performance on the second day, has urged Delhi residents to attend the event with their families. Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the importance of Lord Ram’s teachings and the inspiration drawn from the vision of ‘Ramrajya’.
The Delhi government is organising the Ramleela event for the first time. Traditionally, the ‘Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra’ conducted such events individually, requiring spectators to purchase tickets. However, the current government’s inclusive approach ensures that the Ramleela programme is free for all, allowing more people to partake in the cultural celebration.

Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj clarified that the government’s goal is to make Ramleela accessible to a wider audience, unlike the past when ticket costs posed a barrier. Responding to queries, he emphasised the equal respect for all religions and the government’s commitment to religious inclusivity. Addressing the audience, Revenue Minister Atishi underscored the true essence of Ramleela, urging people to derive meaningful lessons from Lord Ram’s life.
