NEW DELHI: The Congress took swift action on Saturday, suspending former Congress MLA Mewararam Jain from primary membership following the circulation of an alleged obscene video on social media. The video, which went viral, prompted questions from the BJP, while photos of Jain alongside former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Rahul Gandhi continued to circulate. However, the Congress is yet to issue a statement on the matter.

These videos are believed to be linked to a rape case filed against a former Congress MLA, with BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla sharing them in connection to the ongoing case. It’s important to note that The New Indian does not vouch for the authenticity of the video.

Earlier, during the Assembly elections, a married woman in Jodhpur filed a sexual assault case against Mewararam Jain, citing two obscene videos. The woman accused Jain and his associate Ramswaroop Acharya of assault and indecent behaviour involving her 15-year-old daughter. At least nine individuals, including Jain and RPS Rajpurohit, were named in the case.

Stay on Jain’s Arrest Until January 25th:

Upon the allegations, the police conducted a medical examination of the woman and recorded her statement. In response, Mewararam Jain approached the court. The High Court subsequently granted relief by staying his arrest until January 25, emphasising cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

Mewararam Jain, a former MLA and influential figure within the Congress in Rajasthan, has held ministerial positions in the previous Congress government and continues to be a prominent leader in the state.
