NEW DELHI : The INDIA bloc, led by the Opposition, is making a stand against the suspension of 146 Members of Parliament during the Winter Session. Protests are happening all over, and in New Delhi, leaders of the INDIA bloc gathered at Jantar Mantar under the banner of ‘Save Democracy.’ They even marched from Parliament to Vijay Chowk on Thursday to highlight their objection to the mass suspension.

Key figures like Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi are at the forefront of the ‘Save Democracy’ protest in New Delhi. Across the country, INDIA alliance members are also holding demonstrations at district headquarters, showing a united front against what they see as a threat to democratic values.

The Delhi Congress chief expressed worry, saying the ruling BJP and its allies seem scared. Suspending so many MPs, according to him, is an insult to the sanctity of Parliament. He called the move dictatorial and said it’s harming the democratic spirit of the country.

Other leaders joined in, with CPI(M)’s Sitaram Yechury saying, “Democracy is being murdered.” He stressed the urgent need to protect democracy, fearing that unchecked power might harm the very foundation of our parliamentary system.

“The backbone of democracy has been shattered after they suspended over 140 MPs. Amrit Kal will come but now the Amrit Kalash has been poisoned and is in wrong hands,” he added.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor agreed, saying, “In the history of democracy worldwide, 146 MPs have never been suspended.” He called for a change in government, urging people to bring the INDIA Alliance into power for the sake of the country’s future.

RJD MP Manoj Jha spoke out at Jantar Mantar, accusing the ruling side of wanting a parliament without opposition and a press without questions. He said the soul of India is in critical condition, emphasising that while they may control Kashmir’s narrative from Delhi, the reality is that Kashmir is not okay.

“The ruling dispensation wants an opposition mukt parliament and a question mukt press. The soul of India is in the ICU. They control Kashmir’s normalcy from Delhi but the reality is Kashmir is not okay,” said Jha.
