NEW DELHI : In the wake of the suspension of over 150 Opposition MPs from the Parliament during the Winter Session, the INDIA bloc is set to hold an All India protest on December 22.
The decision was taken at the alliance’s meeting on Tuesday in New Delhi, marking the first meeting after the Congress’ defeat in the three Hindi heartland states.

Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge, said, “We have passed a resolution that this is against democracy, this is undemocratic. All India protest will be held on December 22 against the undemocratic suspension of the MPs.”
Kharge highlighted that it was not just the suspension of MPs which had taken them to the street but also Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the Parliament.
“We have been saying this, Home Minister Amit Shah or the PM should come to Parliament and let us know what actually happened (how Parliament was attacked). But they didn’t listen to us. Prime Minister and Home Minister are thinking that in India only they two can rule, and to bust their myth, we have come together in this alliance,” said Kharge during the press conference.
Following the tirade, the President of the Grand Old Party also hinted at a compromise on seat-sharing, stating, “There is one issue of India Alliance, seat sharing and regarding working together. If somewhere things are not getting settled, we will discuss seat sharing and other issues.”
Kharge also sought to address the crisis of seat-sharing in the national capital and Punjab — both bastions of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “To solve the Delhi and Punjab problem will also be discussed. All the party leaders cooperated and made this party a huge success,” the party President said.

Punjab bore witness to a massive upheaval as the AAP wrested control from the Congress-led Charanjit Singh Channi government with state election debutante, Bhagwant Mann.
According to sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had suggested Kharge’s name as the next PM if the bloc won. However, these claims were refuted by Kharge, as he said, “If we don’t have MPs, what should we do by discussing the name of PM? First, we will try to win, and then we will decide the name. Through the democratic process, we will decide the name of PM.”

The meeting of the alliance began at 3 PM at the Ashoka Hotel in the national capital. Following which, a press conference was held by Kharge, Congress Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury, and Nationalist Congress Party supremo, Sharad Pawar.
