New Delhi: A Delhi court has issued a summons to YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a defamation case filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suresh Nakhua. The case revolves around Rathee’s alleged characterization of Nakhua as a “violent and abusive” online troll in one of his videos.
Dhruv Rathee, a prominent social commentator and content creator, has been embroiled in controversy after referring to Nakhua in derogatory terms. Nakhua claims that these remarks have harmed his reputation and seeks legal redress.

In the video, Rathee allegedly labelled Nakhua as a “violent and abusive” troll. Nakhua promptly initiated legal proceedings, filing a defamation suit and seeking a permanent injunction against Rathee’s statements.
Speaking to The New Indian, Nakhua expressed his reasons for pursuing legal action: “The allegation by Dhruv Rathee has damaged my reputation, and this is the legal recourse as suggested by my lawyers.”

Advocates Raghav Awasthi, Mukesh Sharma, and Chandni Shah, representing Nakhua, argued for the issuance of a summons against Rathee. The court presided over by Judge Gunjan Gupta at the Saket Courts, directed Rathee to appear and defend his statements.
The court has set a date of August 6, 2024, for further proceedings. Rathee is required to file an affidavit regarding the genuineness, authenticity, and functionality of the WhatsApp number and email ID used for communication with the defendants.
