Youth with grenades held in Pulwama, terror plot foiled

SRINAGAR: In a significant security operation, an 18-year-old youth was detained in Pulwama on Tuesday following intelligence alerts from security agencies and Military Intelligence (MI). The youth, identified as Danish Bashir, was found carrying ten hand grenades, sparking suspicions of terror affiliations.

 

Intelligence teams, including MI, had reportedly flagged potential terror activity in Pulwama, hinting at an upcoming attack. Acting on these inputs, Pulwama Police, CRPF, and 55 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) set up a checkpoint at a key entry into the town. There, they intercepted Danish, whose behaviour raised suspicions.

During questioning, Danish appeared deeply influenced by extremist views and was allegedly preparing to join a terrorist group. Authorities believe this arrest may have disrupted planned terror activities in South Kashmir, and further investigations could lead to additional arrests.

 

Cognizance of has been taken and case FIR no. 224/2024 u/s 18, 39 UAPA, ¾ Explosives Act, and the said suspect was arrested. Further investigation into this matter is going on, more arrests are likely to take place.
