You Are Not Above Law: BJP Warns Rahul, Sonia

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday warned Rahul Gandhi and Congress that the way they are behaving in the investigation of the National Herald case is inappropriate.

“The way Rahul Gandhi and senior leadership of the Congress is behaving in this National Herald investigation case is uncalled for and inappropriate. First, you did corruption, looted the country and are now trying to indulge in anarchy,” BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said in Delhi.

He further said, “The way an investigative agency is being threatened, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi should know that they are not above the law.”

Further attacking Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, Bhatia said that both Rahul and Sonia are out on bail in the National Herald case.

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi got bail from the lower court in December 2015. Their plea in the Delhi High Court to quash the FIR in the case was rejected. Also, in February 2016, the Supreme Court refused to overturn the Delhi High Court order.

Bhatia said that in its 2016 order the Supreme Court had noted, “In so far as the determination rendered by the High Court in rejecting the prayer for quashing the proceedings against the petitioner is concerned, we find no justification in interfering therewith.”

Citing the documents, the BJP alleged that when caught, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are now trying to put the blame on now-dead Congress leader Motilal Vohra. “Both Sonia and Rahul Gandhi each have 38 per cent share. With 76 per cent share between them, how can they pass the buck to Vohra,” Bhatia asked.

He alleged that they were trying to scare an agency which has recovered assets of more than a lakh crore in the last eight years.

Attacking the Gandhi family, Bhatia said that there was no other political family in the country whose three members (Sonia, Rahul and Robert Vadra) were out on bail.

“Rather than indulging in whataboutery, Rahul Gandhi should answer our questions and make us speechless,” Bhatia said.
