LUCKNOW: Yogi Adityanath will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for second time in a grand ceremony at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium here on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, chief ministers of some BJP-ruled states and senior BJP leaders are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Yogi was formally elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party at a meeting attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP’s observer for Uttar Pradesh and co-observer & former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das on Thursday.
Later in the evening, he met Governor Anandiben Patel at Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form a BJP-led government in the state. He handed over a support letter signed by 274 MLAs to the Governor, BJP office bearers said.
Addressing the newly-elected BJP legislators, Shah said that the monk-politician steadfastly stood by
PM Narendra Modi’s welfare plan.
In the assembly elections held in February-March, the BJP returned to power with a thumping majority of 255 seats in the 304-strong Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Yogi Adityanath, who contested the assembly poll for the first time, emerged victorious from Gorkhanpur Urban seat.
