NEW DELHI: X, formerly known as Twitter, has soared to the number one spot on Apple’s App Store for news apps in India. The platform, which underwent a significant rebranding on July 24, 2023, when the new logo replaced the iconic blue bird symbol, and the platform began implementing the new branding across its app and website, is now the leading choice for Indians seeking real-time news updates and discussions.

Elon Musk, owner of X, took to the platform to celebrate the achievement, tweeting, “X is now #1 for news in India! In India, they want freedom of speech.” This milestone reflects X’s growing influence in India’s digital landscape, particularly in an era where free expression and diverse perspectives dominate public discourse.

The platform’s recent success can be attributed to its dynamic approach to news dissemination and user interaction. On election day, X recorded an extraordinary 434.1 billion user seconds, showcasing its position as a hub for timely and engaging updates. This surge in activity underscores its role as a go-to source for breaking news and critical discussions during key events.

X’s dominance in the news category surpasses notable competitors like Reddit and Dainik Bhaskar, the latter being one of India’s most popular Hindi-language news apps. By leading the charts, X has solidified its reputation as a preferred platform for multilingual and diverse news coverage in the country.

This achievement is not only a win for X but also a testament to the evolving preferences of Indian audiences. The app’s features, including real-time updates, community engagement, and free speech advocacy, resonate with users who value direct access to information.

As India’s digital audience continues to grow, X’s ability to adapt to regional needs and provide a platform for diverse voices has set it apart. The milestone marks a new chapter in X’s journey, positioning it as a critical player in India’s fast-paced digital media ecosystem.

With its rebranding and renewed focus, X is well-poised to maintain its top spot, further shaping how Indians consume news and participate in online discussions.
