UTTAR PRADESH: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been assigned the task of reviving the party in Uttar Pradesh where it has been out of power for the last three decades on Wednesday said that the women are being exploited and they are not getting their deserved rights and urged them to come forward to bring change in politics.

Priyanka Gandhi, who is also the in-charge of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, while interacting with the women said, “Everywhere, women are being exploited. They are not getting their deserved rights. It came to my mind that something has to be done for women empowerment & the biggest thing we can do is to help you recognize your own ‘power’.”

She urged the women to identify their potential and bring a change in politics.

Taking on the opposition parties in the state, Priyanka Gandhi said no one talks about the upliftment and empowerment of women. “Announcements are made, but no efforts are made to fulfil it. There is a mindset among politicians to ignore women. But now I am saying that you cannot be ignored anymore,” she said.

Pointing out the hardships of the women due to inflation, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Who is bearing the burden of inflation? Who is bearing the burden of the struggle of the society? The struggle starts as soon as you are born and there is no one to recognize your struggle. You have been lied to a lot.”

Discussing the promises made to the women in the election by Congress, she said, “We have mentioned in our manifesto that we will give 20 lakh jobs. Of these, eight lakh will be for women. We have prepared a separate manifesto on women’s health, education, and safety.”

Priyanka Gandhi urged women to hold political parties accountable for what they promise.

She also asked the women to vote for parties who talk about women empowerment. “Vote for such parties which talk about your hardships and help in women empowerment,” the Congress leader said.

Priyanka Gandhi also attacked the government on the three farm laws and said, “Such laws are being made to finish farmers. Only the Prime Minister and his industrialist friends will survive. The way to end reservation has been figured out that all government institutions are being sold to industrialists.”

“I have full faith that if change comes, only women will bring that change. You have a lot of power. Know your power. ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ is not a hollow slogan, it is a slogan to empower you,” she added.

Before arriving for the Shakti Samvad with women in Firozabad, Priyanka Gandhi also visited the residence of Sitara Jatav who works in the bangle industry and then said that the party’s women manifesto promises to put power in the hands of all such women.

On Tuesday, Priyanka Gandhi also met Sunil Shastri, son of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and described his father as a soldier of the party.

Sunil Shastri, who has been with the BJP, is expected to rejoin the Congress soon and work for the party in the next year Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Priyanka Gandhi, who is Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, tweeted, “What better occasion than the Congress Foundation Day to meet Sunil Shastri ji, son of a soldier of Congress and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, to discuss a range of issues. We will fight together and win.”
