In yet another warning to anti-India forces, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday said that those trying to destabilise peace in the Valley will have to pay a heavy price.
Addressing the police commemoration day event in Srinagar, Sinha lauded the Jammu and Kashmir Police for “utmost professionalism” and called it the best police force in India.
“Be it maintaining law and order, fighting terror, managing traffic or curbing day-to-day crime, police are at the forefront. J&K Police is the country’s best force fighting on multiple fronts with the utmost professionalism,” the LG said.
The police force has been doing a commendable job in the Union Territory for the past three decades, he added.
The lieutenant governor also said that J&K Police have offered supreme sacrifices for establishing peace and rooting out terrorism & separatism from the region.
“But there are still some elements who, at the behest of our neighbouring country, try to hatch conspiracies to disrupt peace,” he said, in a reference to Pakistan.
“Elements trying to disrupt peace in J&K will have to pay a heavy price.”
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace in the Valley, Sinha said that security forces will avenge every drop of tears shed by the families of martyrs.
The lieutenant governor said that recent protests by local Muslim Kashmiris against the killing of Kashmiri Pandits and non-local labourers are a testament to the fact that terrorism is on its deathbed and won’t survive for long.
Without naming any political party, the LG said that those trying to justify the innocent killings for their personal gains were actually challenging the country’s sovereignty and integrity. “I don’t hesitate to state here that if needed, such people will face action as per the law,” Sinha said.
“We have succeeded to a large extent in rooting out the militancy and separatism,” he said. “Society as a whole needs to boycott the elements who are still trying to disrupt peace in J&K for which there are supreme sacrifices of police and security forces, who laid their lives for establishing peace here,” Sinha remarked.
Highlighting the police’s fight against the new challenge of narco-terror, he said that his administration would provide all the latest gadgets and innovative means to “fight terrorism and other challenges related to it”.
He also said that the administration was committed to the welfare of police martyrs’ families through welfare schemes, financial assistance and children’s education.
Meanwhile, additional director general of police (ADGP) Javid Geelani said that 264 security personnel, including 37 policemen, have laid their lives on the line of duty so far this year.
